Fact Sheets

There are 5 fact sheets in this document. This is a large file (352 kb) in Microsoft Word format - it may take a few minutes to open. It will probably be saved as a temporary file, in which case you will want to save it again in a permanent location.

Note: The estimated amount spent by local school districts (page 4) is based on the original study by Melnick and extrapolated using data from last year.

These fact sheets are for families to use when they visit their legislators.

Print off one or two fact sheets.

Familarize yourself with what it says.  If you do not understand it completely, ask someone to explain it to you until you are able to answer any questions your legislator or his secretary may ask.  If you cannot explain the facts, you will lose credibility with the listener.

Plan to visit your legislators several times and take a new fact sheet each time.  The information varies from sheet to sheet but there is some overlap.

If you don't personally meet with the legislator (and you may not, if you have not made an appointment) leave the sheet with the secretary or the legislative aide.  You can make a return visit with a new copy another time - or you can bring a different fact sheet the next time around!

These fact sheets may be distributed freely as long as this notice and the following credit accompanies the information: "Information sheets and compilation of data courtesy of Dr. Mark A. and Maryalice Newborn ."
Data sources include: PDE, HSLDA, Melnick study, Penn State Data Center and NHERI. Thanks to Mary Hudzinski of the Mason-Dixon Homeschoolers Association for assistance in formatting these fact sheets!
