I sailed into the sea of life,
Thinking I’d become a man;
“My Wisdom” was the name of the
boat
I’d made with my own hands.
I thought that it was unsinkable,
Then a storm raged against me;
In it's fury my boat was destroyed;
I was cast into the sea.
The turbulent waters pulled me down;
I struggled and gasped for air.
My strength was quickly diminished,
As I sank deep into despair.
My life, I thought, was over,
As I lay on the bottom of the sea;
But there in the darkness, two
nail-scarred hands,
Were reaching out for me.
Jesus wrapped His arms around me,
From the depths we began to ascend;
And as we broke the water’s surface,
The sea was calm again.
But it was in the depths of darkness,
When despair had become my grave,
I could see the light of
the Savior,
It was then that I was saved!
“For Thou hadst cast me into
the deep, into
the heart of the seas, and the
current engulfed me…
Water encompassed me to the
point of death. The great deep
engulfed me… I descended to
the roots of the mountains. The
earth with its bars was around
me forever, but Thou hast
brought up my life from the
pit, O LORD my God.”
