*Storm developed Asthma at around five
years of age and continued to struggle with it
for several years. After many bouts, and
much medication, He finally passed away...

One Last Ride
(In
memory of Storm)
I closed my eyes and fell asleep
and then began to dream,
of the most beautiful pasture
that I had ever seen.
I looked into the clear blue sky
and watched the white clouds soar,
then heard a familiar whinny
I'd heard many times before.
I turned to see an elegant sight
for Storm was standing there,
His mane and tail blowing
in the cool autumn air.
His coat was sleek and shiny,
each hoof perfectly trimmed,
He nodded his head up and down
beckoning me to come to him.
Though my emotions told me, "run to him,"
I forced myself to walk,
Reaching to touch him, I suddenly stopped…
Storm began to talk!
"Hello master…I knew you as that,
yet, I also knew you as friend,
For I know I was often hard to keep,
but you kept me to the end.
I know you feared putting me "to
sleep,"
it would have been hard to do,
But my Creator chose to take me
and was merciful to you.
But the Lord, in taking my life,
also showed me mercy you see,
for the days soon to come
would have been very hard for me.
My lungs could not have provided
the air that I needed to live;
Take comfort my passing was God's will,
life is
His to take or give.
I wanted to express to you these things,
and the feelings I hold inside;
And though our 'trail times' were awkward,
invite
you for one last ride."
I hopped upon Storm he started to run,
though bareback I did not slip;
As his hooves rhythmically touched the ground,
not once did he trip.
This time as he carried me
He was free of fear or care,
And the ride was as smooth as an eagle looks
as it rides upon the air.
"I must leave," He said, as we finished the ride,
"but one more message before I go,
please tell your girls for me,
That *Buster says, 'hello.'"
