But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. [Rom 13:14]
When we consider the ruin caused by sin, our purpose should not be merely to avoid sin, but to fight with all our might to avoid the opportunity to sin. Our thinking must be changed from asking if "such and such" is a sin to asking could "such and such" lead me into sin.
A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished. [Prov 22:3]
This proverb reminds me of the children's game hide-n-seek. Evil will find you, unless you remain well hid. And we are obviously to hide ourselves in the Lord Jesus.
When scripture gives us a command, we are not to question it, we are to obey it. We need no reason for obeying any command in scripture, other than "because God said so".
speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, [Num 20:8]
And it is dangerous to seek a reason when none is given. But in this case, God in His mercy offers us an explanation. The reason we should stay far away from is this- sin is greedy! Sin is compared to fire in the Bible. For just a small spark can set a whole forest a blaze.
Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! [NKJV James 3:5]
The more sin is fed, the bigger its appetite becomes. It is for this reason that such a beast is to be avoided at any cost. If fact, it might be better said, the cost of avoiding sin is much cheaper then the actual purchase. Even though one may think he knows the exact price of the purchase, the advertised price is not the price paid.
It amazes me that this event has not been exposed by the media for what it really is. I guess they would rather ignore the sin this event has caused in their own life, than warn young people of all its dangers. Therefore we as Christians must sound the warning.
Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; [2 Cor 5:11]
One November I was in an elementary school to vote and saw an advertisement on the school wall for a "dance". I personally object to this type of false advertising. If they were more honest they would call the event "sin enticement". This school was tossing children into situations that adults are not even able to handle. Then they ponder long and hard to determine answers for why so many "weeds" are growing in their "garden". Well I'll tell them the reason and will not charge them $100,000 for the study. I will even cut it into a manageable size for them.
For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: [Hosea 8:7]
One of the chief purposes of public schools was to warn children about that deluder satan. It was never their purpose to provide an environment where that deluder can peddle his goods.
The "Old Deluder Law" of 1647 established the first free public or common schools in America. In 1647 the legislature of Massachusetts enacted a law with the following preamble: "It being one chief purpose of that old deluder, Satan, to keep men from the knowledge of the Scriptures," it was therefore ordered that every township containing fifty families or householders should set up a school in which children might be taught to read and write, and that every township containing one hundred families or householders should set up a school in which boys might be fitted for entering Harvard College. Lord, America has fallen a great distance away from you just like Israel in times past. We are tired of reaping what we have sown. Lord, let righteousness reign in our land once again. Let our cry be like that song of old "God Bless America". Amen.
