So, You Want to Know More About
Me . . .
|
The most important thing in my life is Jesus Christ. I came to know Him as my personal Saviour when I was 19 years old. Without Him in my life, everything would be so empty. He is my source of daily strength and the sustainer of my life. In 1994, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a chronic illness causing muscle pain, extreme fatigue, and sleep disruptions (among other things.) Through my illness, I have had to learn to rely on God, and to ask Him what He has for me each day. "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty." (Psalm 91:1, NIV) |
One of the reasons I'm so excited about
the Training Our Daughters curriculum is that it
covers many of the topics I'm interested in. Gardening,
both vegetables and flowers, sewing, quilting (I love
quilts, but I'm not very good at making them), counted
cross stitch, home decorating, rubber stamping, canning .
. . the list goes on and on. I also have dabbled in
silk ribbon embroidery, smocking, heirloom sewing,
crocheting, and paper twist, just to name a few. I
hope to pass as many of these skills as possible on to my
daughters.

If you've
spent time perusing this web site, you have probably deduced that
I love country! In January of 2005, we moved into our newly-built
home. Very slowly, we are doing some painting and decorating. Many
of my country accessories from our former house have been incorporated into the
new one, even though I envision using different colors here. I've learned to decorate
on a budget, utilizing such ideas as using wallpaper on only one
wall of a room, using wallpaper borders, and stencilling. I love
decorative accessories with Scripture on them, and I've made others, such as dried
floral wreaths and swags, and counted cross stitch samplers. And
- I'll admit it - some things have even come from garage sales!
Two adorable kitties share our house,
along with one loveable dog and numerous tropical fish. Klaus, our white kitty,
was adopted
from my husband's cousin. She, is named after the
cat in Treasures of the Snow. She loves attention
and has a sweet purr-sonality, although recently, she has begun an annoying
habit of sassing us whenever we don't do what she wants! Our other cat is Callie.
She's every inch a calico who loves running
around and getting into trouble any way she can!
Our dog, Kelly, is a labrador/chow
mix. We adopted her from the local humane society in May, 2005. She
was three when we got her,
and we've worked hard to train her; she is much better behaved than she was at
adoption, and we enjoy having her around. A more polite dog you'd be
hard-pressed to find.
Our family has gone through major adjustments since December 16, 2005, when my
husband was diagnosed with kidney failure caused by
Multiple Myeloma, a rare form of treatable, but incurable, blood cancer. (http://www.imf.com
or http://www.mmrf.com) Phil is
currently undergoing dialysis three times a week for 3-1/2 hours each
time. In June, he was in the hospital for 21 days following high-dose
chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. We pray that his cancer will go
into complete remission for a good period of time, and also that his kidneys
will begin working again to some extent. God has been so good to us
through this difficult time, providing for our every need, and we are thankful.
