Frequently Asked Questions

This page is a work in progress!  I am frequently asked the same questions; hence the need for an FAQ page!

At what age can I begin using the Training Our Daughters   curriculum?

This curriculum is primarily for girls ages 11 - 18 (grades 6 - 12.)  Depending on the abilities of your daughter, you may be able to begin earlier.

Is this a complete academic curriculum?

No.  Training Our Daughters is primarily a homemaking curriculum.  It does not cover the other academic subjects you will need to teach.  Please see my How Can We Do All This? page for information on how our family plans to give credit for some of the topics we'll cover by using this curriculum.  We will, of course, use other materials to provide a complete academic program for our daughters.

Can I purchase Training Our Daughters for less than $74.95?

No.  It is the policy of the publisher that no discounts be given on this book.   Of course, you can always look for a used copy.

What is the difference between Training Our Daughters, Keepers at Home, Polished Cornerstones, and Far Above Rubies?

TRAINING OUR DAUGHTERS TO BE KEEPERS AT HOME (TODKAH) - A 7 year program the covers almost every aspect of keeping a home and then some!   The 800 page book has each year broken down into lesson plans and has many helpful articles and projects.  There are several books that will be needed, but they are ones that you will end up using all the time and not for just one lesson.  For more information on this book check out the other pages on this site.

KEEPERS AT HOME STEPPING STONES HANDBOOK (KAH) - A check list book for skills that are used in homemaking.  It is a wonderful way to check your daughter's knowledge in different areas of homemaking and being a godly lady.  It does not give many instructions on how to do the projects so you will need to have access to a good library.  With over 100 project areas and 300+ pages it covers everything from room cleaning to Bible study.  It is intended for ages 7
through 12.  For more information on this book and to see sample pages check out www.keepersofthefaith.com

POLISHED CORNERSTONES (PC) - This is a book that has projects based on Proverbs 31:10-31 for ages 4 - Adult.  These are divided up by the verse and then listed from easiest to hardest.  The parent chooses what project would be appropriate for the child at the time.  For more information on this book and to see sample pages check out www.doorposts.net

FAR ABOVE RUBIES (FAR) - A unit study based on Proverbs. 31:10-31 for high school girls.  It covers all the High School subjects with an emphasis on how to become a godly woman, wife and mother, as well as business/vocational training for those not planning to pursue higher education.  It is recommended to use a math text and possibly a science text in addition to the math and science presented in the study.  For more information on this unit study check out www.farandblessed.com

All of these books can be used separately or together.

Special thanks to Cathy Haskin for these wonderful reviews!

Is there a boy's equivalent to Training Our Daughters?

You might want to check into Plants Grown Up (Doorposts).  The Prepare and Pray unit study is another alternative, but unfortunately, the web page for this is no longer online.  Perhaps you can find a used copy.  It is based on The Swiss Family Robinson, and is geared for girls and boys, but boys, especially, will find it interesting.  In addition, the author of FAR has a boy's equivalent, Blessed is the Man.  Finally, Christian Light Education has high school electives in Small Gas Engines, Agriculture, Modern Residential Wiring, Carpentry, Basic Automotive Service and Systems, Home Repair and Maintenance, Woodworking, and business.

How else can TODKAH be used?

Many ladies are giving this book as an encyclopedia to new wives and mothers.  It is full of information to answer many questions that young wives have!  Older mothers use it to teach themselves some of the fine womanly arts.

Did you write this curriculum?

No!  All the credit goes to Mrs. Ann Ward.
